Does Your Company Sell Out of State?

Are your systems ready to deal with the changes in the sales tax landscape?

The Supreme Court ruling on 6/21/2018 in South Dakota vs. Wayfair, states that states can require online retailers to collect sales tax. The previous ruling in Quill Corp. v. North Dakota was overturned – physical presence is no longer required for states to demand that sales tax be collected and remitted.

You’ll want to be in contact with your accounting professionals on which states you may need to start collecting tax in and when.

Have you considered an online tax solution?

This also might be the time to prioritize implementing one of the online tax solutions that can calculate sales tax based on addresses and have reporting functions also.  Ideally, they should be integrated with your Sage software solution.   The sophistication and dependability of online solutions have expanded over that years.  We recommend Avalara's tax solution.

Another tax solution option is Tax Jar, which has integrations built with eCommerce sites such as Big Commerce.

No matter what tax solution you select make sure it integrates with your Sage software.  An answer of only “can be integrated” is a path you should take only with caution. Please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any questions about tax solutions and your Sage software.
