A client wrote to me recently with the following question:
Is there a way to change a standard order to a master order once it has been created? We need to split an order into multiple parts, but we want to use that order as the master order and build off of it.
This is a fairly common challenge, as orders often need to be modified to better align with evolving requirements. This post will guide you through the process of converting a standard order into a master order, allowing you to track the original quantity ordered and the remaining balance as new sales orders are created.
- First, navigate to the Sales Order Entry window and either enter a new Sales Order number or click the right arrow to bring up the next one.
- Then, navigate to the Order Type field, click on the drop-down menu, and select "Master Order." Then click "Accept."
- Next, you need to enter the customer number (CustomerNo) of the customer whose order you want to convert to a Master Order.
- Then, click on "Copy From," which is located in the upper right-hand corner.
- Once that window opens, the Copy From field should read "Sales Order." Below that, change the Order Type field to "Master Order."
- Then, you'll need to enter the Order Number you’re converting in the "Copy From Number" field.
- Click "OK."
- Once you're back in the Sales Order Entry window, you can create a new Standard Order.
- Finally, click on "Master Order lookup" and select the new Master order created from a Standard Order.
